The Apache Project Sucks (Tuesday, June 20, 2006)

A few weeks ago, I found some interesting hits in my server logs that were probably the result of a bug in the Apache "nutch" bot. So I sent an e-mail to the nutch team to let them know. They never responded, but instead, posted my e-mail to their web-based archive, without obscuring my e-mail address. And now, I'm getting spam on that address. I cannot believe they would do something so stupid. And it's not like I can go back and "fix" this. Once the address is harvested, I'm completely screwed. And of course, they don't post any legitimate e-mail addresses of their own, so I can't even contact them to take the page down — not that it would help at this point. I'm so mad, I am beside myself. I've worked so hard to protect my address from unethical companies, and to have it posted to the web so blatantly by an organization like Apache, that we're all supposed to trust. It's just unimaginable.
