Happy Independence Day! (Monday, July 4, 2005)

Happy Independence Day! Only this year, it isn't quite as happy as it has been in years past, for a variety of reasons. Were it not past 3:00 AM, I would go into them in more detail, and perhaps after I sleep, I will write more fully on the subject. For now, I just wanted to comment how pleased I am with Comedy Central for having the balls to air South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut uncut in all of its violent and offensive glory. Never before have I heard the "f-word" so many times on basic cable, nor have I seen a depiction of Satan and Saddam Hussein engaged in a physical gay relationship, nor the violent execution of Bill Gates. To tell the truth, the movie is actually pretty offensive, but I had the option to turn it off, and I respect the network for understanding that, and that there's no reason to try to "protect" society from what we seem to actually want. South Park falls clearly into the realm of satire, and is a perfect example of speech that the Founders would have wanted to protect. Okay, I'm falling into the realm of early morning incoherence, so I'm going to go to sleep, and edit this entry in the morning.
