Got a Raise! (Tuesday, May 4, 2004)

Dammit, why did I have to be right the first time? So Claire wants to hook up with Bob, and whatever other random guy she wants. I'm cool with just dating her, I'm just sick of it going back and forth. I'll be distraught for a few days, and then I'll be fine. I hope we can still spend time together because she's really a lot of fun — and the only person I can go to goth night at the clubs with or to Hanson concerts. She'll figure out what she wants eventually. I just need to be more careful in the future.

I finally got my raise today, and a biggie, too — a 20% increase, and my bonus structure went from 10% to 15%, so if they ever start paying that out, it'll mean a lot of money. By itself, the raise gives me about $600 more a month, after taxes. So now we get to see what Microsoft has to say. Not that I have to worry about leaving anyone behind if I go. (Yes, I'm still bitter, I told you, give me a few days.)

I also bit the bullet and decided to put in an alarm system — something I've been wanting to do since I moved in, and now that I have the extra money each month, I can afford it. I also got a great opportunity to get the system installed for free, so I'm having that done, even as I type. I get intrusion monitoring and fire monitoring for like $40 a month. Which is about half the cost of ADT, if I recall correctly. And since I get the whole system for free, it raises the value of the house. Which is good, if I decide to move. Now all I need is the deck, and I'm in business. Of course, the installers have been here all day, and they're having some equipment issues, so who knows how long that's going to take. They arrived right before I was about to get lunch, and I figured they'd be in and out in a few hours, but they were really friendly, and now they're having issues, so it's been like four or five hours and they're still here, and I still haven't eaten. I'll probably be going out for food here very shortly. The sales rep actually invited me to play basketball with them on Wednesday nights, so if I ever get kicked off the racquetball court at 9:00, I can go play basketball afterwards. Fun stuff. Okay, time to go find food...
